Tipping a house cleaner isn’t required — but it’s a genuinely kind way to recognize great work, and plenty of clients want to. If you’ve ever stood there afterward wondering what’s appropriate, here’s how most people in Los Angeles handle it.
The short answer
A common range is 15–20% of the cleaning cost, or about $10–$20 per cleaner for a typical visit. For a larger home or a team, people often tip toward the higher end or a flat amount per person.
One-time vs. recurring service
- One-time, deep, or move-out cleans tend to involve more intensive work, so a tip at the time of service is a nice gesture — think 15–20%.
- Recurring service is more flexible. Some clients tip a little each visit; others skip per-visit tips and give a larger holiday or year-end tip (often the cost of one cleaning) to the team that takes care of their home all year.
When a bigger tip makes sense
- The team went above and beyond — last-minute scheduling, a especially messy job, or extra care with delicate surfaces.
- Holidays, or to say thank you after a long stretch of great service.
- A move-out clean that helped you get your full deposit back.
A few etiquette notes
- Cash is always appreciated, but many services let you add a tip when you pay online.
- Tipping is never expected at La La Land Cleaning — our pricing is fair and transparent on its own. A kind review or a referral means just as much.
- If you’re not sure, ask. We’re always happy to make sure a tip reaches the right people.
What about the actual price?
Tips aside, the cost of the clean itself is one transparent flat rate based on your home’s square footage, bedrooms, bathrooms, and any add-ons.
